North-Rim-by-Moonlight-Grand-Canyon.jpg
North Rim by Moonlight, Grand Canyon ©2016 James D Peterson. This image was made around midnight just before a half moon set in the west. Thus, the moonlight bathed the canyon in warm hues, like the setting sun would. The volcanic peaks of Northern Arizona (around Flagstaff and Williams) can be seen on the horizon, and the three clusters of bright lights above the rim across the canyon are (from the right) Grand Canyon Village, the town of Tusayan, and the town of Williams. The four minute exposure caused the stars in the southern sky to stretch out into star trails, and the tracks of an airplane can be seen as a dotted line in the sky.
