Grand-Canyon-by-Moonlight.jpg
Grand Canyon by Moonlight ©2016 James D. Peterson. The moon was at about half phase when I made this 16 minute exposure from near Mather Point on the South Rim. That provided plenty of illumination to capture the depths of the canyon, including the lights of Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon about a mile below my position. The stars are stretched by the long exposure into star trails rotating around Polaris (the North Star). The Big Dipper can be seen in the upper left, and Casseopoeia (the big "W") is in the lower right.
